Built on the site of a census protest organised by none other than Laura Ainsworth herself, Ainsworth Court is a 24 flat building in Sittingbourne, Kent and was completed in 2023.

Laura Ainsworth (1885-1958) was a leading figure in the suffragette movement. In her time with the party both a tree was planted in honour of her achievements at a suffragette leadership event, and she was awarded a Hunger Strike Medal ‘for valour’. The night of the 1911 census, in the previous building which stood on the land Ainsworth Court now occupies, Laura Ainsworth hired one of the rooms as a space for women to gather. This was part of the Suffragette’s wider movement which argued if women do not count, then they were not to be counted. The census reporters ended up getting tipped off to their whereabouts, but whilst the presence of the 40 people who attended Ainsworth’s gathering was recorded, none of their identities were disclosed and they were instead described as a “Party of Suffragettes”.  

Pink Fortress’s building now stands with her name and examples precisely what it is we strive to achieve for at Pink Fortress, taking the past into the future. We are committed to preserving the history of all our building sides, be-it in through the bones of a listed building, or the memory of its grounds. We hope, in equal measure, to bring that preserved history forwards, and add Pink Fortress to the future of these sites. 

The property also marked a historic event for Pink Fortress as a company. Ainsworth Court marks Pink Fortress's first turret instilation! A milestone we believe every property development company should have in their portfolio. We could not be more proud or pleased with how this design was realised, and are exceedinly happy that it sits atop this development.
